Summary of research: Developing a relatively quick and easy surgical procedure (laparoscopy via the vent) as a non-lethal method to survey fish populations for prevalence of intersex in males. For this research, intersex refers to the occurrence of female germ cells (oocytes) within the testes of male Black Bass populations. Intersex has been used a biomarker of endocrine disruption with an emphasis on estrogenic hormones

I am also exploring how two novel analytical devices – a handheld x-ray fluorescence device and an antibody-based biosensor – might contribute to ecological and human health risk assessments at this contaminated site.
